Fluoride varnish is a quick, safe, and effective way to help protect your child’s teeth from cavities. It is painted directly onto the teeth and helps strengthen enamel, making teeth more resistant to tooth decay.

The varnish is brushed onto the teeth in a thin layer. The process is quick, simple, and does not hurt. Some young children may fuss because they do not like having someone look in their mouth, but the application itself is comfortable.

After fluoride varnish is applied, your child can eat soft foods and drink cool or room-temperature drinks. For the next 4 to 6 hours, avoid hot drinks, hot foods, and hard or crunchy foods, as these can remove the varnish too soon. Your child’s teeth may look slightly yellow temporarily, but this will brush away the next morning. Resume brushing the next day unless our team gives you different instructions.
