Nitrous oxide does not put you to sleep. You remain awake, able to breathe on your own, and responsive to our team during treatment. Many patients describe feeling calmer, lighter, or more comfortable while the nitrous oxide is being used.

This option can be helpful for patients who feel anxious about dental care, have a sensitive gag reflex, or need extra support staying comfortable during certain procedures.

One of the benefits of nitrous oxide is that the effects wear off quickly after it is stopped. At the end of the appointment, you will breathe oxygen for a short period, and most patients feel back to normal soon afterward.
